New PSP'er enquiring about Custom Firmware/Homebrew etc.
Hello,

I recently purchased the a limited edition Slim PSP (FF ftw! :P), it by standard has the official 3.95 firmware.

I am interested in this custom firmware business seen as it would appear I cannot really run anything homebrew or program my own without it?

I don't mind fiddling around, but I do not really have the money to go mucking about opening the battery and soldering it to death :P (though I do have some years of hardware engineering experience and obviously soldering and de-soldering experience as well as software general and game programming experience under Windows).

Now assuming there is no way around some form of hard mod (aside from needing anything like a FAT PSP that has already been modded or things like that which I do not have access to), is there anyway to purchase one of these pre-made pandora's batteries in Australia (preferably Sydney if there is any locals about these forums?) and if it comes to that, is that all I need aside from my PSP slim, PC and USB Cable.

Thanks for listening (or reading rather :P).

P.S, for reference, these details:

PSP: SLIM (FF Limited Edition or what ever).
FirmWare: Official 3.95
Memory: Genuine Sony 4GB Pro Duo
Connection: USB Cable
PC: Laptop with built-in card reader.
Battery: Whatever came with my PSP Slim.
