Off Topic: XBox 360 Hard Drive Transfer Cable: BEWARE LOSING DATA!

Well, for those of you with Elites and finally getting to using hard drive transfer cable... WATCH OUT!

The transfer cable and utility will NOT let you keep what's already on your Elite's hard drive! It will ONLY transfer what's on the 20 GB drive to your new 120 GB Elite drive AFTER it has reformatted your 120 gig drive! Yes, this means Microsoft didn't take into account that, if you received the transfer cable two months into using your Elite, that you may have saved games and [paid-for] content on it. So, FYI, BACK UP everything you can BEFORE using that transfer utility. Thankfully, it provides plenty of warnings to this fact.

Best,

Tutorial: How to unbrick your PSP via Pandora Battery

We know you're all still dazzled with the monumental development from homebrew heroes (and now PSP unit saviors) Noobz, Team C+D, and the rest of the minds behind the Prometheus project and Pandora Battery unbricker for PSP. The whole process is simple enough, and the good developers got all bases covered, even instructions on installation.

However, as with any community, it's expected that a flock of total beginners are bound to hear about this. It's not hard to imagine how difficult it'll be for them to understand even some of the simpler things (at least for all of us) homebrew-related mentioned in the process. Of course we just can't let them try to figure things out on their own, it's a good thing there are guys like Freeplay who are willing to extend a helping hand to those who need assistance.

What we have here is a very detailed step-by-step procedure aimed at PSP newbies. Freeplay's got everthing down pat, every single action you need to create a jigstick battery, a magic memory stick, and the actual unbricking process. What's really great about this guide, is it's from someone who created the tutorial on the same time he's doing the whole process himself. It's plucked right from the heart of the PSP community.

Spotted on eBay: The PSP "Unbricking Battery" for 80 bucks

When Noobz and C+D released their Pandora Battery unbricker for the PSP earlier, the teams warned everybody that information on their project was leaked.

This amounted to the unbricker being released earlier than expected (it was originally meant for the PSP Slim), and more importantly, to several unauthorized copies of the unbricker being sold on the market for cutthroat prices.

We're letting you guys know about an ongoing auction over at eBay that appears to be for one of these "unofficial" releases. The auction starter (aka mediaseller1977) is selling an "Unbricking Battery" for £ 40.00 (US$ 80).

We're assuming that the dealer means a PSP battery that's already been prepped with the Pandora Battery. Also being vended is a copy of what appears to be the installation software for the unbricker, for £ 2.50 (US$ 5). Both sales are expected to end this August 26.

As an important reminder, Noobz and C+D released their Pandora Battery unbricker as a free downloadable (follow our previous report for the download link). Just make sure that you've got the technical skills to install its components.

We're letting you guys in on this information as a form of warning - the dev teams did say that certain "enterprising" individuals would be popping up to take advantage of their success. Spread the word.

Now on video: Pandora Battery unbricker tutorial

Having problems trying to intall your very own Pandora Battery PSP unbricker (created by Noobz and C+D)? Hunter Onhika dropped us a line earlier to say that a new Pandora Battery creation/usage/installation guide is available for viewing. Unlike previous guides you may have seen, however, this one comes in video format.

Just the thing for readers who don't fancy squinting over small text-based instructions, or the guys who pick up instructions better by way of an actual demonstration. Just be sure to have a comfy chair ready before you start viewing - Hunter Onhika's how-to videos are around 20 minutes long altogether. Alternatively, readers are also invited to Cooguy1212's thread at our QJ.Net PSP Hacks forums, where the videos are also uploaded.
