God of War-themed PSP auction won by game developer Ready at Dawn

About three weeks ago, a one-of-a-kind God of War-themed PSP was but up for sale on eBay with a portion of the proceeds going to charity. Well it turns out God of War's development studio, Ready at Dawn, was the winning bidder and they have announced the personal delivery of the item on their web site. Here's some of the official scoop from the Ready at Dawn website:
You might remember this really cool God of War PSP Mod that was in the news a little while ago. Its creator, Ramon Stokes, put it up on eBay with portions of the proceeds going to charity.

Well, you know how we do, we couldn’t let this one pass so we used our ninja eBay sniping skillz to outbid all the competition and claim this really cool piece of hardware all to ourselves…while at the same time doing something cool for Child’s Play.

But we didn’t stop there. In order to make sure the PSP wouldn’t get damaged during shipping, we flew its creator Ramon over to Southern California to hand-deliver it, meet the team and get to play the soon-to-be-released Chain of Olympus demo. We’re passionate people and we like passionate people so we were all super jazzed to meet the guy behind this one-of-a-kind handheld. Of course, getting to see the game in action before anyone else wasn’t bad for him either

Kidnap victim saved by the PSP

A Tennessee man who was kidnapped and tortured for nine days in a motel managed to escape thanks in part to the Sony PSP.

According to an FBI report obtained by the Knoxville News Sentinel, one of the two assailants had given the other a hand-held video game that he played "virtually all day that day and much of the night." (GamePolitics later confirmed from an FBI filing that it was a PSP.) The victim loosened his bindings while the kidnapper played and, when the he had fallen asleep, used the opportunity to escape.

Both men have been arrested in connection to the incident; there is an investigation as to the mens' involvement in similar cases.

Global Gaming League to Power Online Tournaments on PS3

PlayStation 3 competitions now officially powered by GGL.

One common complaint about the PlayStation 3 remains its lack of online gaming prowess. Whereas Xbox 360 offers many head-to-head gaming experiences over a broadband connection, the PlayStation 3 competition essentially has none. Help appeared today as Sony Computer Entertainment America announced a new agreement where the GGL will produce several live online PS3 gaming tournaments.

"We are excited to create tournaments for the PS3 community and provide players with the opportunity to showcase their talent online in a live, competitive environment," said Jeff Reese, director of software marketing, SCEA. "Teaming with GGL further validates our commitment in building outstanding experiences and providing gamers with the best possible gaming online."
