Off Topic: Used PS2 with NBA Live 06 for $500,000 on eBay

Looks like eBay user sp9590 thinks he can get $500,000 for his Used PlayStation 2 with 2 controllers and NBA Live 06. Shipping is a mere $25 and the lucky (imaginary) buyer will most likely have it in 2-3 business days (if he has time). Thanks to psphacker108 for the tip.

Teams compete to create video games in 1 day

Although a typical video game takes 5-10 years to develop, amateur video game developers at Ohio University’s GRID Lab were challenged this weekend to develop a game in 24 hours.

The inaugural Ohio Game Jam was at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the GRID Lab on Court Street and gave competitors one full day to complete a video game.

Ian Schreiber, the official Event Overlord and OU instructor, organized and hosted the Game Jam, which is a microcosm of the time it typically takes to develop a video game.

“You don’t end up with Shakespeare, but you have some high levels of creativity because of the time constraints,” Schreiber explains. “The point is not for prizes and competition, but to have an informal and friendly environment for people to make games.”

The competition had 17 participants in six teams from not only Ohio University, but also four students from the University of Baltimore and one student from the Columbus College of Art & Design.

When the competition ended, each team showcased its game and gave a brief explanation, with ideas ranging from hippies traveling through time to thwart technology to simply maintaining the balance between nature and growing cities.

PSP D-Pad Analog Stick mod by F00 f00

F00 f00 at Acid Mods never ceases to amaze and his latest mod is no exception, this time acting on a concept from a person that goes by the name replicashooter. What he did was modify the analog stick to act as the D-Pad and replace he D-Pad with a PS2-style analog stick. Clicking down on the PS2 analog stick activates the left shoulder button. He also added some clear casing and blue LEDs for some extra style. Check out the video via the link below.

PSP price drop "US only" says Sony

Major US retailers, GameStop and EB Games, have today dropped the price of the PSP Core Packs by $30 from $199.99 to $169.99.

This is said to be part of plan to help PSP better compete with the DS, which is outselling the PSP by as much as than three-to-one in some regions. If it proves to be effective, we could hopefully see other retailers, maybe even in UK, follow suit.

However, there's no sign of a UK price drop from the current £150 tag, with a Sony representative this morning telling CVG "it's a US-only thing" at the moment.

The Core Pack is the most basic package, including only the PSP, the battery and the adaptor, lacking the 1GB Memory Stick and UMD that comes with the Entertainment Pack, which will continue to retail for $250.

Kotaku has a rather interesting reader contribution on their blog. It seems a shop in Germany has been distributing flyers advertising the "Sony Nintendo DS" for just €149. Take a look below at the picture that Kotaku has so kindly shared.
