Sony Teams With Segway to Provide True Mobile Gaming Platform

HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY - April 1, 2007 - Sony Computer Electronic Entertainment (SCEA) announced today a partnership with Segway, Ltd., manufacturers of the balancing "human transporter" device to bring a new era in mobile entertainment. The Segway PSP Pack includes a Sony Playstation Portable (PSP) with an anti-glare display, a specially designed bag for containing the PSP, a custom designed PSP case with wind-guard, and a Segway Human Transporter i180 series device for the ultimate in outdoor entertainment. The Segway i180 will come in a limited edition color of PSP Black.

"Now our users can enjoy the PSP anywhere, even on their daily commute," said Al LeDeon, an SCEA representative. "With firmware 3.40, users will be able to tap into the Segway's balancing gyroscopes to play games, which we call PGO-STK technology."

Already the package is catching on with PSP afficionados, such as Auri Rahimzadeh, author of Hacking the PSP, a book about modifying Sony's PSP unit. "It's unbelievable. I can play Grand Theft Auto with both hands because the Segway completely balances me! Now, when I'm about to go grocery shopping or to Starbucks, I don't have to stop playing my game - I can just let the Segway balance me while I play."

The Segway PSP Pack goes on sale today at participating Segway retailers. MSRP for the package is $4299, which includes the PSP, the accessories, a one gigabyte Memory Stick Pro Duo, and a Segway i180 Human Transporter.
