(Off Topic) Mr. Modchips Gets Convicted in the U.K.

A 'businessman' who traded under the name Mr Modchips has become only the second person in the UK to be convicted for distributing and selling chipped consoles.

39 year-old Higgs was found guilty of 26 offences: three counts of advertising, supplying and selling modification chips designed to enable people to play illegally copied games on their consoles, 12 counts of possessing 19 chipped games consoles and another 11 counts of possessing Executor modchips for Microsoft consoles, as well as Viper GC chips for Nintendo systems. He was cleared of a further four counts of possessing chipped consoles.

The jury at his trial voted unanimously against Higgs, whose lawyers requested leave to appeal which was granted by the Judge. A date for the appeal hearing has yet to be set.

Sony PlayStation Operating Losses Double in Q2

Sony said Thursday that quarterly operating losses for its games unit had more than doubled, but that it hoped the division would break even or better in the second half of the financial year.

During the quarter Sony sold 1.31 million PlayStation 3s and 10.3 million PS3 software units globally. The ageing PS2 notched up 3.28 million sales and 38 million game sales, while the company also shifted 2.58 million units of its handheld PSP console and 12.6 million games for the system.
The company feels it is still on track to sell 11 million PlayStation 3s during the current financial year.

The games division losses weren't enough to stop Sony posting a quarterly operating profit across its full business however. Overall Sony's quarterly operating profit reached 90.5 billion yen, compared to a loss of 20.83 billion during the same period last year. Growth was largely driven by strong LCD TV, camera and camcorder sales.

[Release or Summat] PSP development-ready environment for VMWare (sweet!)

MK2k reports:

Hi there,

I was a bit frustrated with Cygwin+PSP Toolchain so I created a gentoo linux environment for VMWare. Now I had the situation that already two guys could use this so I uploaded the virtual hard disk of it for you to download and enjoy.
VMWare is a software which runs on Windows and Linux and is able to boot up other operating systems alongside your host operating system. With the virtual hard disk from me you can rather easily compile your projects with this. With Samba folder sharing, you can connect directories of the virtual machine to your windows machine too.

To get the gentoo linux environment running you have to download the free VMWare Player software. Read about all this in the Readme packed with the files.

You can download the virtual machine and read some necessary setup steps over there: http://gentoo.pspuae.com

Preinstalled on the virtual machine are: mc, gpm, screen, samba, psp toolchain, ps2 toolchain

All files hosted by the courtesy of FOL (member of the PSPUAE team, thanks alot!)

cheers!
