Sony's current plans are for two millions PlayStation 3 units to ship
for launch, two million by the end of 2006, and six million by March
2007, which is the end of their fiscal year. If they go into production
this week, that's about a million units a month.
But Japanese analysts Mitsubishi UJF Securities say those numbers
are too positive--about 200% too positive to be precise. One of their
analysts, Masahiko Ishino, says there simply won't be enough components
to meet those shipment numbers. His voice adds to previous reports of
potential shortages.
UJF Securities estimates that instead of six million by March 2007,
Sony will have shipped three million. And that will result in a 3.2%
drop in Sony's stock price.
If the analysts are right, we might only get one million PS3
