PSP Third in Growth, First in Gaming Quality

Jason Anderson, an analyst for the International Development Group, made some good points earlier this week at the MI6 Game Marketing Conference regarding marketing growth in various gaming platforms, including the PSP. Anderson's presentation, which was covered by Gamasutra, noted that for the handheld gaming industry in 2006 PSP ownership would be at around 8.7 million, followed by growth in 2007 to 14.4 million and in 2008 to 17.6 million. These numbers project a growth curve which puts the PSP in consistent third place behind Nintendo's GBA and DS. In terms of game quality however, IDG analysis found the PSP at the top of the list.

DANGER! Crappy beta "downgrader" *WILL* BRICK YOUR PSP!

Update from Auri: Apparently there is a new, working downgrader now. I'll test it Saturday and make it available if it works. I wouldn't download anything for a few days, though, just to make sure... Apparently TA-082 PSPs are NOT compatible with the new, apparently working, downgrader.

This is the problem I keep talking about folks - developers releasing code that doesn't work, and then saying "hey, you shouldn't have downloaded it 'cause it's a test version." Well, guess what, if it doesn't work - DON'T RELEASE IT!

REMEMBER FOLKS - Only download tried and true, TESTED downgraders. Don't download and run an exploit the same day if you're unsure... give it a few days, make sure it's legit before putting your $200+ investment at the mercy of someone's code. I will only post downgraders that work on my site. If you find something flaky, let me know!!! I have lots of PSPs here, so if I brick one I don't care, but you'd probably be ticked if you only have one!

Take a look at the video here at PSPUpdates.

Be prepared to cry.

Best,
