Convincing PSone emulator interface pics surface

(apparently these are actually fakes, but pretty good ones! -Auri)

PSone emulator

PSP Updates received some snapshots alleged to be depicting the PSP's forthcoming PSone emulator interface. The pictures suggest a simple process in which users select a PlayStation game from an alphabetized list and then, are given details about the title and an option to purchase and download the game. Pictured above, the Gran Turismo 2 detail shows a $15 price and 2–6-player Wi-Fi (infrastructure) multiplayer support. Elsewhere, another image reveals this list of "new" available games (quite a launch lineup):
  • Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare
  • Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars
  • Broken Sword: The Smoking Mirror
  • Doom
  • Doom 2: Hell on Earth
  • Duke Nukem: Time to Kill
  • Duke Nukem: Land of the Babes
  • Final Fantasy VII
  • Gran Turismo 2
  • Grand Theft Auto 2
  • Metal Gear Solid
  • Twisted Metal 2
  • Quake 2

ATTN UK folks: UMD movies for £6.99

After all the good deals on PSP accessories for US customers, we thought we'd give our European readers something to shout about too.

Play.com(uk) are offering UMD movies from as little as £6.99 as part of their Easter sale, along with free delivery. Prices of titles such as Robots, The day after tomorrow, and 28 days later have been slashed from £17.99 to just £6.99. This recent price crash may be a tactical move in order to shift UMD stock, due to the poor sales and the crisis Sony's portable movie format has found itself in, after the UMD movie format was dropped by Wal-mart and Universal pictures.

But the Play.com Easter deals don't stop at UMD movies. A variety of PSP related products have also had their prices slashed, including games such as WWE:Smackdown Vs Raw 2006, and prices of accessories such as Datel's WiFi Max being slashed to £17.99, just one month before it's rival, Thrustmasters' FunAccess WiFi key is due for launch.

Capcom's Finder Love for PSP

Female gamers usually cringe at this sort of thing and rightly so, it sidelines them, but a reporter must do what one must do. It seems that Capcom are working on a title called Finder Love, the title will be a series of adventure games that involves the player taking on the role of a photographer, taking photos of 'hot' anime styled girls, or 'idols'.

Apparently there'll be three idols included the Finder Love titles. These include Fumina Hara, Risa Kudo and Aki Hoshino. The player will get to photograph the girls in all sorts of clothing including bathing suits. There's also a variety of location shoots, such as spa and massage parlour. The game is due for release in Japan on 29 June 2006 on the PSP platform and sounds a little like Pokemon Snap with half naked girls. If that's your thing, then you're in a lot of luck.

Like Video game soundtracks? Try Galbadia Hotel

Galbadia Hotel is a website which has loads of soundtracks for video games, all available for free download. There are literally hundreds of thousands of soundtracks for you to download for games from any time period, for any console.

The site features:

We won't just stop at video game soundtracks, artbooks and media-- we're already starting to add anime soundtracks to our collection. In the future we plan on expanding to whole anime episodes, downloads of abandonware games, and just about anything else you can think of related to video games and anime."

TechRestore - Fix your PSP Overnight!

TechRestore's new service, called PSP-Restore will allow owners of faulty PSP's to buy the overnight repair package for just $29, and have their PSP picked up from their home. TechRestore will then analyse the PSP to tell you what' wrong, and give a call back with a repair price for the system. They will then repair your console and send it back to you via overnight delivery. If this process goes to plan you should receive your beloved, now fixed PSP back within 24 hours. And if you think the repair bill is too large, they'll just send your PSP back to you. All repairs also come with a 6 month warranty. This service could  be a lifeline for some PSP users. You're probably better off paying to get it fixed via TechRestore than sending it off to Sony under guarantee. Sony might send it back to you with the latest firmware version on it.

If you're fed up with dead pixels you can also order a LCD screen replacement from TechRestore. This service is pretty costly, at $108.99 with overnight pickup and return, or $89.99 if you choose the self ship option - but your screen will look just as it did when you bought it!

I know the question will be asked, so I'll answer it now. If you have a bricked PSP they probably won't be able to fix it, but it might be possible if they replace the flash memory or something; but I like i said, I doubt it.

PSP Video converters review

Bit-tech has written an intensive, in-depth review of 3 popular PSP video converters - PSP Video 9, 3GP video converter, and ATI's Avivo Video converter.

Bit-tech tested the 3 PSP video converters mentioned above on a very high end system, and analysed each converter to see how well they convert the video, including file size, time taken, and quality of video. They then take into account how user friendly the software is, and what video formats they can convert. Chick out the results in the Full Article below!

The Fourth Creation Game Competition

A new homebrew video game creation competition has started. It is being hosted by the ps2dev forums. There are two separate contests. One is for PSP homebrew, and the other being for PlayStation 2 homebrew. Here are the rules.
  • Prize is hopefully a PSP with firmware 1.5 for best entry.
  • Games must be playable using the PS2LINK 1.46 via Host.
  • Games should be playable on at least one of PAL or NTSC (hint: working on both counts towards polish points)
  • Games can be entered which require special peripherals (eg gun controls), however, judges are likely not to own the required peripherals and final scores may be highly effected by this.
  • Prize is hopefully a Playstation 2 ready for homebrew for best entry.
  • Games must be playable on a PSP with firmware 1.5
  • Games should not run in kernel mode unless you can give a good reason.

So if you think you have something new to bring to the world, go get starting at creating an original game for the competition. You can find further, more detailed rules and information at the link provided. Good Luck!

Bandai Namco Brings Brave Story to PSP

April 5, 2006 - Brave Story was announced some time ago as being in development for the DS, PS2 and PSP, but it wasn't until the latest issue of Famitsu that we learned first details on the DS version. Tentatively titled Brave Story, the Bandai Namco Games adventure is based closely on the Miyuki Miyabe novel and animated film.

You play as an original main character who lost his mother at a young age, suffered memory loss from the shock, and was put in a hospital. Now 18, you travel into a special world apart from reality in an attempt to recover your lost memories. You appear as a 13 year old in this world.

You're not alone on your adventure. In the game's first town, you select one of two partner character, each of whom has his own reason for being in the special world. Wataru is a normal fifth-grade student whose life changes when his father suddenly leaves home and his mother makes a failed attempt at suicide. With all hope lost, Wataru turns to his classmate Mitsuru, from whom he learns of the special world. Mitsuru has actually gone into this world in order to return her sister back from the dead.

Wataru is the main character from the novel, and by selecting him as your partner character, you end up playing through an arranged version of the original storyline. Selecting Mitsuru puts you on an all new storyline prepared especially for the game.

As you travel to the fantastic places and meet the fantastic characters of the special world, you explore complex dungeons. These require that you use the stylus to solve puzzles. The stylus is used to slide levers, rotate the dials of a lock, and move pieces of puzzles into place.

Brave Story is set for Japanese release on 7/6.

Yorkshire Has Firm Grasp On UK PSP Games Chart

Games produced by two of Yorkshire's most successful games developers currently occupy three of the top four positions in the Sony PSP section of the Leisure software charts from ELSPA (compiled by Chart Track) – the UK's most recognised and respected monitor of software sales.

In the week ending 2nd April, Wakefield based independent developer, Team 17 was dug-in at second and fourth spot respectively with Lemmings – the handheld version of its classic PC games and Worms: Open Warfare – another long-running and highly successful franchise. Third place was taken up by Rockstar Leeds with Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories – a title that shows no signs of flagging, having spent a staggering 21 weeks in the chart.
