PlayStation 3 Secrets to be Revealed Next Week at GDC (a little off-topic, but c'mon - the PS3 and PSP will work with each other!)

In a recent interview, GDC (Game Developer Conference, this month in San Jose, CA) Director Jamil Moledina confirms that Phil Harrison's keynote speech at GDC will contain new information on the PlayStation 3.

While providing no details on the content of the eagerly-anticipated GDC keynote, entitled "PlayStation 3: Beyond the Box," Moledina said that Sony's talk would offer "significant editorial value and developer takeaway."

This is not exactly surprising news considering that Moledina is the director for the GDC, but it does indicate that Sony may finally be ready to unveil details such as a launch date and price point. Sony may also choose to share more details about the company's much-anticipated online gaming service for the PSP and PS3.

But Moledina also implied that Nintendo's keynote would also contain some interesting information. "I strongly encourage [people] to attend both platform keynotes."

Battlefield 2142 hinted at by Digital Illusions producer

Producer Dan Blackstone of Digital Illusions CE has hinted at the imminent announcement of "something very big" in an interview with Shacknews, which GameSpot presumes is most likely Battlefield 2142, a most futuristic sequel. The senior producer of Battlefield 2: Modern Combat for the 360 gave that little tidbit at the end of the interview, stating: "We’re about to announce something very big, so stay tuned. One other interviewer asked this and I gave him a hint, so it’s only fair that I do the same for you: 3213/3X2. Or said another way: S.R. 4588164." GameSpot subsequently put two and two together and came up with 2142, the square root of 4588164 as well as the result of (3213/3)*2, so it appears that Call of Duty and Ghost Recon are not the only FPS franchises taking their games into the future. For an alleged video from the futuristic game labeled "'Stella' Minsk Level Video Showcase," check out the first link listed in the "See also" section below. While we don't know whether such a title would be based on PCs, current-gen consoles, the 360/PS3, or even the PSP, there are apparently quite a few walking tanks being employed by the armies of tomorrow if this clip is to be believed. (Metal Gear!) April Fool's is ah' comin' up soon, however, so please take this news with just a grain ah' salt.

Audi R10 debuts on PSP

The R10, Audi’s new Le Mans contender, has landed on the PSP portable gaming system. No, Gran Turismo 5 wasn’t released under our noses, rather Audi has released a video preformatted for the PSP that features a “trailer” of sorts for the R10 racer.

The video is highly produced and it’s surprising Audi would put forth so much effort on such a project, but we really enjoyed hearing the car’s bi-turbo TDI V12 for the first time.

You can download the zipped WMV file here.

New eLoader Released - Version "Biere d'Alsace" - Lots of Improvements for 2.60 Users!

Fanjita has released his latest eLoader - an application that runs on PSPs with firmware 2.00 through 2.60 that enables them to run the many great homebrew applications out there. This version is called "Biere d'Alsace," keeping with Fanjita's tradition of naming new releases after beers. Technically, the version number is 0.96. Fanjita's app is the de-facto standard for running homebrew on 2.00 and above, and it just keeps getting better! Download it today and get the most out of your PSP! (download link is below)

Note: PSPs with Firmware 2.01 or higher will require Grand Theft Auto in addition to eLoader to run homebrew on their machines.

For a complete list of compatible homebrew on Firmware 2.00 go here.
For a complete list of compatible homebrew of Firmware 2.60 (requires GTA) go here.

From Fanjita's Blog:

I'm proud to present the latest eLoader release - version 0.96, codenamed "Bière d'Alsace". The main focus of this release was to improve the configuration model, so that we have lots more flexibility for sorting out configuration problems. As well, we added a few features to spice things up. Here are the main highlights:
  • Full support for infra-red (for GTA-mode only).
  • Lots of extra configuration parameters, including GTA-only and TIFF-only options.
  • USB support in the menu (TIFF-mode only).
  • Use O as well as X to select in the menu.
  • Use Square to get EBOOT IDs from the menu.
  • Most corrupted menu icons now fixed.
  • GTA autoload option in installer.
We did a lot of testing on this release, and it seems to be more stable than Brown Ale, but there's always a chance that some things will be less stable. You can read the latest README file here.

We've also taken the opportunity of this release to update the 'working homebrew' list. All the information in there is now accurate, as far as we know, but please let us know if you think anything is wrong.
