Hacking the PSP Book Recommended by Fanjita! :)

Thanks to Fanjita for this great book review! :)

From http://www.fanjita.org:

I thought I'd mention a cool book I read recently, which is probably of interest to most people reading this site. It's called "Hacking the PSP" by Auri Rahimzadeh, and basically a guide to getting the most out of your PSP. It starts with the basics, like loading up with MP3s and videos, and moves on to various hardware and software hacks.

Auri has done a good job of maintaining a website with the inevitable updates as the PSP scene matures, which should prevent it from going out of date. He also aims to reply to every email and IM received from readers. Why not pick it up? It's an interesting read, with plenty of useful tips and projects. Even I learnt a few things! You can order it here (UK) or here (US), and read more about it (including some sample excerpts) here.

Neo Pad 2in1 - Use Compact Flash cards with your PSP

Even though this has been around, I don't recall mentioning it in my blog... Since memory prices have come crashing down lately, but not affecting Memory Stick Duo prices as much, SD may be a very viable option... check it out!

From Video Game Bin:

Use a CF Card with your Sony PSP.  Or even a Microdrive.  This 4GB
wonder for your Sony PSP expands you memory options to the max.  Much like
the 4G Memory Max for the PSP which was released by Datel.  The Neo 2in1 4G
Memory card converter allows you to use any Microdrive or CF Card just as you
would a Memory Stick Duo on your Sony PSP.  Now more spending loads of cash
to get that 1Gig MS Pro when you could use inexpensive CF Cards that do the
exact same thing.  Cool add on for the PSP lover in your house.

PSP and DS get new Stars Wars title

The rumour mill continues to churn the butter of idle speculation this week, yet it transpires that this is no sour cream (enough! - Ed), as there will in fact be a brand new Star Wars game heading to the DS and PSP handhelds. Ubisoft will publish, too.

Star Wars Shadow Strike is actually mentioned in Ubisoft's recent release schedules, and is currently set for release on May 26th. An entry in the 'action' genre is mooted, though neither licence-holders LucasArts nor publisher Ubisoft are saying any more on the game at present - despite the fact that May isn't a million-miles away now.

PSP Ad Promotes Bad Words and Sex

pspsexualnature.jpg

Sony’s perplexing PSP poster ads continue to plague London. While previous adverts vaguely mentioned naughty things, this last imagine of a bus stop ad is pretty explicit. Imagine a child telling his mother he wants a PSP, and then she see this. Class, that’s real class.

Details about Amanda Evert in Tomb Raider:Legend

Eidos today revealed a few screenshots and info about Amanda Evert, a rogue anthropologist and Lara's new cat-fighting adversary in the upcoming title "Tomb Raider: Legend". By comparing these screenshots with the ones released before, this must be without a doubt this-gen screenshots. Eidos also revealed that "as a bonus tidbit for fans", once you completed the game you'll be able to play the entire game again with the Amanda model. How exciting !? E3 Game Conference Announces It's Official Sold-Out

The Entertainment Software Association today announced that the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3Expo) has sold out of exhibit space for 2006, having sold more than 540,000 net square feet of space covering all five exhibit halls at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The 2006 E3Expo, the world's premier computer and video game industry trade event, will host more than 400 exhibitors covering space equivalent to 4,650 Olympic swimming pools.

"As the global computer and video game industry enters an important creative and technological transition, the early sell out of E3Expo affirms the critical importance of this event," said Douglas Lowenstein, president of the ESA, the trade association that represents U.S. computer and video game publishers and owns E3Expo. "As the first place to see the most anticipated next generation hardware and software titles, and the best place to learn about the industry through its unrivaled conference program, E3Expo 2006 will offer attendees an unparalleled view of the business of games."

E3Expo, now in its twelfth year, will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center on May 10-12 for exhibits and on May 9-11 for 34 conference and workshop sessions, which will be led by an unsurpassed panel of more than 175 industry leaders. Unfortunately this event is not open to the public, mainly because you are not cool! Ok, just kidding. E3 is a trade event and is open to working journalists with qualified media outlets and should be over the age of 18. For more info visit E3Expo.com.

NesterJ NES Emulator v1.10 - Work in Progress Information

Ruka has finally come back! He is now working on his NesterJ Emulator, the best NES emulator for the PSP. He has released the beta version of NesterJ v1.10 on his homepage, but claimed that it should not be re-distributed now, since it's still an unstable debug version. If you are really interested, please head over to his website and download it yourself. Here are some details on the new version:

Changes so far from v1.07:
  • GPU support added (coded by "e", the author of eSwan and HuE)
  • Ported the audio source from NNNesteR
The 2 changes mentioned above resulted in much cut down on the performance load, especially the FDS audio source, which is now running tens of times better than the old method. The software that uses the extended audio source of the disk system now can run at 60 FPS with V-sync turned on.

To-Do:
  • Menu refresh (like uo_Snes9X)
  • Better performance (still has some potential)
  • Low battery announce
  • Misc.
