NEW HACK: Custom icon for your PSP

Replace the PSP's standard windows mass storage device icon with an icon of a PSP. This cool trick is pretty easy to do just take the contents of either the Type1 or Type2 folder and drop them in the root of your memory stick then disconect the usb cable and reconnect it and it will load the new icon. The file takes up about 3kb so it wont hurt your ability to cram MP3's on your memory stick.

Get the file here.

WARNING! Another Fake Downgrader!

Just yesterday, Paulk501 brought to everyone's attention a fake downgrader which is being sold on eBay. This downgrader adds to the growing list of fake applications which are being released by shady people.

I just wanted to warn you guys to NOT buy any PSP-related software off eBay, or anywhere else. The homebrew community is kind enough to give their applications for free. Plus, you run the risk of damaging your PSP when you run fake applications. It could be harmless. Or it could be a bricker. You can never know until you've actually run the application. And by that time, it might be too late.

And if there's any revolutionary homebrew (read : Downgrader, New Exploits, etc.) coming out, you WILL know. Make sure to get your homebrew only off the trusted sites. If you find a fake downgrader/application anywhere on the web, please notify us, so that we can warn all of our readers about it too.

Note from Auri: For more information about Homebrew, please visit Homebrew Central at http://hackingpsp.com/

Another Note from Auri: It's OK to buy used games off eBay, of course!

Great Hacking the PSP Book Review on BlogCritics.org

Here's an excerpt from Matt Paprocki's review of my book:

"With the complexity of today's gaming consoles, it's no surprise we need books like Hacking the PSP. The amount of things that can be done to this little handheld is astonishing, and there isn't another book out there on this console that covers this much. The flashy, foil cover isn't just for show. It's there to grab attention away from the other books on the same topic because they're nearly rendered useless."

It's also posted on BreakingWindows.com (Matt's site) here.

What a great review to wake up to this morning - thanks for enjoying my book, Matt!
