Cabela's Dangerous Hunts and Bust a Move: Deluxe Will Make Their Way to the PSP

Other than the more famous PSP titles to be released this April (007: From Russia with Love, Field Commander and Astonishia Story), two more new games are included in the April releases of new PSP games. Majesco's Bust a Move: Deluxe and Activision's Cabela's Dangerous Hunts are also scheduled for release this April (given that there will be no delays).

Cabela's Dangerous Hunts belong to the Sports - Hunting/Fishing genre, which will probably take after its PS2 counterpart's features. Bust a Move: Deluxe is a Puzzle Game that features Bob, Bub and some new characters. Ghost Mode - wherein you have to pop colored bubbles in order to solve puzzles - is included in this game.

It's worth checking out these games, especially when their other versions are hits among the gamers.

Monkey 64 PSP Nintendo 64 Emulator News

PSmonkey has recently updated his site which includes some new progress on his popular N64 emulator! I was very excited hearing about this news and after looking at the provided screenshot, was speechless!

Monkey64 is a N64 emulator for the PSP system which was started a few months ago by PSmonkey. Throughout the months we have seen a few updates with this emulator including a working version of the emulator and some excellent progress reports from PSmonkey. His most recent report tells us that he has decreased the number of bugs and has increased the number of compatible games. Although these games may be "compatible", they are not at the fully playable stage. The N64 is a very difficult console to emulate causing many emulator coders trouble, even on computers with superior hardware. PSmonkey has told us that Doom64 does work with the emulator and that you can get to the menu screen! PSmonkey has gone even further by providing us a wonderful screenshot of this Doom64 "pwnage" on the PSP! The screenshot is at the top of the article (click thumbnail for full image), so enjoy, and let's all give PSmonkey our support!

PSP-OSS "Hawk" teaser screenshot

After the PSP-OSS team pioneered the PSP shell world with their first version a while ago, it looks like they're back alive & kicking with a new version of their shell, codenamed "Hawk".

Although it does seem to be more like a WIP mockup picture, if the final version will look similar to this, it's going to be a very promising app.

While the official PSP-OSS site doesn't mention "Hawk" yet, PSP3d states that the team is undergoing restructuring, and with the "PSP-OSS is NOT dead" news post on their site, there's gotta be something going on.

We'll keep you posted as new information surfaces.

Metal Slug Rampage Coming to PSP

At GDC 06, SNK Playmore confirmed that there is a new compilation of Metal Slug coming to the Playstation Portable. Metal Slug has been an extremely popular game for SNK, its roots bring most people back to a pizza parlor or coin-op laundry where a bright red and black NeoGeo cabinet sat to exchange their quarters for a few minutes of non-stop action.

The newly scheduled Metal Slug Collection for the PSP will have all the games in one, including Metal Slug, Metal Slug 2, Metal Slug X, Metal Slug 3, Metal Slug 4 and Metal Slug 5. In addition you will be able to play 2 player mode via wifi connection. Metal Slug is one of those games that you can go back to time and time again. The graphics are fluid and fully animated like always, and the gameplay includes many different types of enemies and most of which have unique attacks. Truly classic arcade action at its best.

Loco Roco PSP Gameplay Video

There's a new trailer for the cute little hungry blob game Loco Roco. This video shows actual gameplay. You can watch as the hungry little guy bounces along eating and growing bigger, he even gets struck by lightning and splits into a million little pieces. You can get a feel for the game and how it will play from watching this video (an entire level is completed). The very fitting background music accompanying the game can be clearly heard as well. After watching this I recognize that this game is unique and not just a Katamari rip off.

Sony's PSP: Pretty Sweet Price?

Sony (NYSE: SNE) may have delayed the debut of its PlayStation 3 juggernaut, but that doesn't mean the electronics giant has no aces up its sleeve.

That's the great thing about having major franchises in not just one but two arenas. Sony may essentially lead the console market, but it also has a palpable presence on Nintendo's turf -- I'm talking about the PSP handheld wonder, of course. And now, Sony has upped the game concerning that platform.

Looks like those in the market for a shiny new Sony portable device will have a choice. Instead of being forced to shell out $250 for a PSP with a couple of accessories, consumers will now be able to buy just the PSP and the requisite rechargeable battery system for about $200. This is pretty clever, actually, because it sort of feels like it's a price cut when it isn't, exactly. Granted, the case that came with the $250 model might not be so sacrosanct, but users will end up springing for a memory stick and headphones to go along with the lesser-priced PSP.

Nevertheless, this promotion should convert more kids (and more than a fair amount of adults, too) into PSP owners; with Easter around the corner, the fuel is there to pump this scheme up. Not only is that music to Sony's ears, but it's also a merry tune to companies such as Activision (Nasdaq: ATVI) and Electronic Arts (Nasdaq: ERTS). We all know that drill by now -- a bigger installed user base equals better shareholder-value prospects for best-in-class software publishers. Plus, movie studios owned by the likes of Time Warner and Lions Gate Entertainment will enjoy increased opportunities to monetize their libraries over the PSP's UMD format -- remember, you can watch movies and listen to music on the system in addition to playing sports and fantasy games.
