2.71 Custom Firmware SE-A released by Dark_AleX!

These days, Dark_AleX has made it a habit of making big news at least once every week. And might we add, a great habit at that. Just yesterday, he released a generic downgrader which made it a piece of cake to anyone who wanted to downgrade. But in case anyone looked harder, you would've noticed that the file was named updateflasher.zip/rar.

We're sure many people got curious of the fact that a downgrader was named as updateflasher. Well, although we have known about it for a little while now, we decided to keep quiet so that you guys would get a huge surprise, come release day.

And well, we guess it's time to let everyone know what Dark_AleX has been working on. How about we tell you that we can run all 1.5 kernel mode homebrew on our 2.71 PSP. While we're at it, we might also add that it's a seamless package. You won't know that the PSP has been modified in any way, apart from the fact that you can run homebrew properly on the 2.71 firmware. All the magic is courtesy of Dark_AleX and his 2.71 Custom Firmware, or as Mathieulh likes to call it, 2.71 SE-A.

Warning: PSP Bricker Being Spread (Once Again)!

The PSP "scene" never sleeps, whether it is in anticipation of a new downgrader or an exploit, we are always awake and ready for the next "thing". However, one thing we are not ready for are PSP brickers. These are programs that are disguised as a simple homebrew application, but in reality it deletes necessary files for your PSP's survival.

This is something that we do not take lightly in the scene as many have fallen victim to these disguised homebrew games, even one of our members and the first to report the bricker - CatfishD. Now, any of those referring to the victims of this "crime against humanity" as noobs, I wouldn't be so fast to type that. The only way test for a bricker is to use a program that will identify it if it writes to flash. With all the homebrew being released and tested everyday, this has not become a daily practice.

You can download the PSP "virus" scanner below with the download link if you want to be more cautious with your homebrew. The program was created by Dark Killer about a year ago for earlier brickers, but the methods of bricking have stayed the same - so it still works!

You can test for these "brickers" by using a simple program, or you could wait for someone to report it in our forums as was the case yesterday. Mathieulh and Jas0nuk also took the time to inform everyone how this particular bricker works (you can read all about it here).

What to look for:
  1. The most recent bricker has been concealed with the folder names (KXploited form) of SDL-TEST-5 and SDL-TEST-5%
  2. The file size is around 75kb, the % folder containing a 65kb eboot
  3. Use Dark Killer's PSafeP program, of which can be discussed and downloaded below (newly upload from old download site!)
  4. Do not use any programs that you have not seen come from a reliable source. Best source is of course, PSPUpdates!

PSPoste Beta1: Fully Functional E-mail Client for the PSP

E-mail on the go is something that we all crave. It's like text messaging for free, and until now, there hasn't really been an e-mail client for the PSP that had complete features. We say "until now" because the PSPoste development team has just announced the release of PSPoste Beta1 - a fully functional e-mail client for the PSP with both POP3 and SMTP mail protocol support. The feature list of this client is really long, and once you finish reading it you'll wonder why it took so long for such a client to come to the PSP, and you'll realize that this is just what you've been missing out on.

PSPoste Beta1 supports the POP3 and SMTP mail protocols as well as allowing the composing, retrieving, storing and viewing of emails from multiple servers. Users can choose from 3 supported input methods; graphical overlay keyboard, p-sprint or ThinkOutside IrDa keyboard; whichever method you prefer to use to make your e-mail experience much better. PSPoste doesn't currently support deleting mail from the server, so any e-mail you do receive wouldn't be permanently lost, although this is not a guarantee either.

The only thing which could cause you a bit of trouble is that PSPoste uses the memory stick to store email, so any crash, loss of power or removal of the memory stick while PSPoste is running could cause corruption and data loss of any data on the memory stick. So be careful. If you can, use a spare memory stick to load this application. This is a beta, so you can expect there to be a few bugs that the PSPoste development team will still have to spray with their very own coding can of Raid.
