PSPSOne: Playstation Emulator Update (PSPUpdates)

When it comes to PSP homebrew, a Playstation One emulator has kind of taken on the aura of the Holy Grail. Everyone wants it, no one can find it. Playing the role of King Arthur in our story is PacManFan who has been searching for the Grail for many, many months. During this time he's made the occasional update on his progress, but they have been few and far between. But today, our once and future king has returned with impressive news, and a newer alpha build of his PSPSOne Emulator.

I've decided to release another ALPHA version of the PSPSOne emulator as a demo so everyone can see how much the speed has progressed.

No BIOS is required for this demo, I'm using the internal HLE Bios built into the emulator. This is the same Paradox demo I released last year, except this runs much faster.

Some techinical info:

-This version is running with the interpreter CPU core, not the recompiler.
-This is running with full 256x256 textures (I can get better speed with 64x64 or 128x128 textures)
-No sound
-Partial debug loggin enabled
-partially optimized build

I'll add a fps counter to all future versions so you can see speeds for yourself. Remember that this Paradox demo was designed to test the very limits of the Playstation.

Just so there is no misunderstanding, This ALPHA demo is hardwired to play a single psx demo file that I have provided, It will NOT run a game in it's current state. I plan to release a playable BETA version very soon that has a GUI, mapped controls, and the ability to select and load psx/bin/bin.gz files.

Also, would someone with a 2.0 check to see if it works?

Please remember to donate!

Taito to Release Puzzle Bobble Pocket for PSP (Yahoo! News)

More from everybody's favourite weekly news-column-filler Famitsu: Taito's planning to release another Puzzle Bobble/Bust-A-Move title on PSP.

Ultra Puzzle Bobble Pocket is due out on March 23rd in Japan and reportedly features 16 different puzzle modes.

As well as the usual practice of firing coloured bubbles up the screen to try and make groups of three, players will be able to partake of Blind Puzzle, where the colours are hidden by symbols, and See-Saw, where the screen teeters this way and that when one side gets overloaded.

There'll also be ad hoc network play according to those running their eyes over Famitsu's pages.

Ultra Puzzle Bobble Pocket will be released in Japan about 16 months after the PSP's first Puzzle Bobble, which came out just after the system's launch. That game was, er, pretty similar.

We can't remember anything about the first one coming out in Europe, but fans of Taito's Bubbly titles might want to keep an eye out for Bubble Bobble Evolution, which is due out in Europe in March from Rising Star.

Sony PSP strikes back at Nintendo DS in Japan - Outsells DS for First Time in Weeks (Google News)

by Marcus Lai
Punch Jump's Hot Coffee Talk

Sony's PSP handheld entertainment system has outsold the Nintendo DS in Japan for the first time in weeks, in a report from data research firm Media Create.

From Jan 2. – Jan 8., the PSP sold 132,757 units over Nintendo DS at 91,379 units.

The slump in Nintendo DS sales is due to a sell-out of stock at most retail stores.

Nintendo apologized to customers via its website on Jan. 5 and said that supply will increase around the end of January.

The video game veteran however dominated the software sales to take nine of the top ten on sales charts.

Games like Brain Training 2, Animal Crossing DS, and Mario Kart DS took the top three spots.

Square Enix's Kingdom Hearts 2 for the PS2 was the only non-Nintendo hardware offering to make the top ten at 83,200 copies sold.

Team X-tender and QJ.net Contest Winner Announced (PSPUpdates)

For those that weren’t aware, the winner of the Team X-tender and QJ.net “10 reasons why I love PSP2TV” has been announced. Lets all give Ian a big Congratulations for winning this contest, fighting through the tough competition. Here is what Ian had to say:

Well it is with great jubilation that I tell you all about how it feels to win the Team Xtender PSP2TV contest. I have been on top of the world all day, going around to friends houses and showing them this incredible piece of hardware that lets my play games as if I was using a ps2. They all couldn't believe their eyes. I am the envy of all my friends and they too want to get a PSP2TV. I am over come with joy that My Ten Reasons were picked. It makes me feel good inside to know that I am now a "First" person. One of the lucky few to get a product before anyone else.

Team Xtender has really made my Christmas this year. It is something that I will never forget them for. They are number one in my books, as considerate people. To pick me out of all those other entries is just beyond belief. I thought up my Ten reasons in a very quick period of time(15 mins). I am never this lucky, I have never ever won anything before in my life . I hope that they have many more contests and that one of YOU out there can win something so amazing as I have. Playing GTA and Socom on it is just amazing. Now I don't have that constant strain in my back from hunching over to play my games on the PSP. Homebrew has never looked sweeter either. So to all of you out there, if you don't already have one, do yourself a big favor and go out and get one. Thank you Team Xtender, I am forever grateful.

Ian’s top 10 reasons were:

1 : PSP2TV, is the meaning behind the words " Handheld Entertainment Console".

2 : I can't wait to see the looks on other peoples faces when they see it work.

3 : Team Xtender really do Xtend the possibilities of the PSP

4 : I will be the envy of my friends who also have PSP's.

5 : Utilizing the internet on my 2.0/(DGD)1.5 psp will be easier on the eyes.

6 : My hands won't get cramped up anymore.

7 : The faceplates will be awesome, finally no fingerprints.

8 : None of that mirrors and cameras, bull shyte.

9 : It's a great excuse to get a bigger T.V.

10 : It's the best add on for the psp yet.

Well there ya have it folks, those are my top 10 reasons why I love PSP2TV. I might even make a parody of i want my mtv by Dire Straits, for those of you old enough to remember. Thanks Team Xtender I hope

Congratulations Ian!

New Game Announced: Crash Dummies for the PSP (PSPUpdates)

CrashdummiesInside D-Industries, the evil D-Troit is creating new crash dummy prototypes. D-troit has a dark past and before dedicating himself to crash tests, it seems he lead a criminal life full of robbery, swindles and racketeering.

Even today, behind the "normal" activities of D-industries, it appears he's hiding some dark criminal projects.  According to some people, he's even using these new crash dummy prototypes for bank robberies and many other kinds of crime.

Prof. Advisor’s Crash-Industry has been shut because of a mysterious attack that destroyed a good part of the buildings and damaged the equipment. The economic damage was so great that the complex had to be closed down and most of the dummies had to be sold to D-Troit.

Prof. Advisor knows very well that D-Troit is behind all his problems, but he needs to find a witness. His only hope is to rely on his most faithful friend and companion, Crash Dummy. Crash Dummy's girlfriend, Tyre, was kidnapped by the evil D-Troit, because on the night of the explosion she had seen D-Troit's prototype dummies placing the bombs in the Crash-Industry.

The future of Prof. Advisor and all the other dummies lies in the hands of a single...Crash Dummy.”

Homebrew Game: Dumbbell ported to the PSP!

Dark Killer has brought this fun (and addictive) little game to the PSP which is based off of the SDL Windows game of the same name. Dumbbell is alot like the popular "Snake" games, and while they are very similar there are a few differences. In Dumbbell, everytime you reach your target (the dumbbell) it clears out bits and pieces of your "toxic trail" leaving gaps in the line.
