E3: The PSP extends its library, but console ports still rule the day

The PSP stuck its neck out at E3 and showed off a lot of new sofware, but we're still looking for content that defines the PSP as a system seperate from the PS2. As the DS seems to be stuck with mostly games based on Nintendo franchises, the PSP can't quite break away from using past PS2 games to bulk up its game library. 

EA's PSP Def Jam: Fight for New York: The Takeover has a lot of names, and looks impressively close to its big console brother. The game will sport an all new story, new venues, and new moves to entice gamers who already played the PS2 version but will that be enough? The game looked and played great, but even with the new features it was covering old ground. Similarly, their port of Madden 07 was by the numbers. There were a few concessions to the PSP's lack of two analogue sticks, but other than that it's what you'd expect. 

Ace Combat X likewise looked and played marvelously for a portable game. It's amazing how much they were able to cram into the little system; it really felt like an arcade flight sim in the palm of your hand. Unfortunately if you're played Ace Combat 4 already there's not going to be a lot of new ground here.
