Sony Japan Announces PSP Downloadable Content Hot Spots
Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has unveiled
PlayStation Spot
, a service that allows PSP owners to download limited use content and game demos at participating locations, according to news translated by Gamasutra from the official Sony Japan website.
Starting today, Japanese PSP owners can use the service at certain locations of Gourmet Pia, a higher-end "composite cafe." Over 150 Gourmet Pia locations will feature the service, with more locations being added daily through mid-March.
Content is downloaded through the PSP's "Gameshare" feature, meaning that demos can not be saved onto a memory stick, and are deleted from memory once the unit is powered off. The service is available only to PSP users running firmware version 2.0 or above.
PlayStation Spot comes on the heels of Nintendo
announcing a similar upcoming service
in the United States. As of press time, neither specific Gourmet Pia location details nor available content has been revealed.
