Addon for Nintendo DS May Rival Sony’s PSP Functionality

A little off topic, but interesting nonetheless!

There is a new accessory for the Nintendo DS (Dual Screen) that has the potential of adding functionality that could rival the Sony PSP (Playstation Portable). This add-on has the ability to turn a DS - which will only play games now - into a handheld media center.

Produced by Datel (the same company which makes the 4GB hard drive and extended battery packs for the PSP), the MAX Media Player for the Nintendo DS will bring music, video, and photo capabilities to the DS. The device adds 4GB of storage which should be enough for most anyone. The device plugs into the GBA (Game Boy Advanced) cartridge slot, draws power from the DS, and will support MP3, multiple video formats, and JPGs. This is a real rival to the functionality of the Sony PSP handheld system.

The device is rather pricy though as it runs about $224 which is almost twice the cost of the individual DS handheld system. (and $24 more than a used PSP, without all the cool PSP games, UMD-Video, expansion, high-resolution screen, speed, and more <grin>)
